Organ Meridians

The organ meridians are distinct channel that circulate life energy (Qi) and blood throughout the body, regulate yin and yang and moisten the tendons and bones and benefit joints. They are not blood vessels. They comprise an invisible lattice that links together all the fundamental textures and organs. These twelve organ meridians are the bodies communication system discovered by the Chinese beginning over 5,000 years ago. Hundreds of points, acupuncture and acupresssure points have been located in and on the body.

The Chinese consider the meridians to be the web of life. They have been referred to as " rivers of health", which flow continuosly through the body. Take note that the organ meridians are paired up, eg. Lung /Large intestine, liver / gallbladder.

Highly recommended reading would be a book titled The Web That Has No Weaver (Understanding Chinese Medicine) by Ted J. Kaptchuk, O.M.D.

I have included in the articles following Organ Merdian Imbalances, as well as a more detailed look at meridians in Organ Meridian Balancing Exercises which are designed to move the Qi, through the body using specific stretches and breath. These exercises can be done one at time or together as a short daily routine. Many of the positions are familiar to those who take part in yoga practice.
